District 2 "Sparkles and Shines"! |
|
| by
Kathy Verger Muscus SI Coos Bay Area District 2 Meeting Chair, 2002-2003 NWR Coordinator, Programs of Service The clubs of District 2 gathered together to celebrate our 50th anniversary on Saturday, October 25, 2003 at a “Sparkle and Shine” banquet at the Greenwood Inn in Beaverton, Oregon. Almost 200 members and guests enjoyed a memorable night of great food, a fabulous keynote speaker, and an unforgettable talent show. But, one of the most special moments, for me, of the entire week-end occurred that night. A few weeks ago, I had put out a request to the clubs for each club to bring a bucket, basket, some cleaning container full of cleaning supplies for the S.A.V.E. (Soroptimists Against Violent Environments) to distribute to the appropriate venues in the greater Portland area. What a response!! There were approximately 25 baskets full of wonderful supplies that the Coalition was thrilled to receive. They will be distributing these during early November in conjunction with their other ongoing terrific service projects. In fact, the response was so great we had a slight transportation and storage issue. Last seen, Diana Zinn, SI Portland, was leaving the Greenwood Inn with her vehicle absolutely loaded!! Thank you, Diana for solving our problem. And, thank you, District 2 clubs. You not only looked beautiful Saturday evening in all of your stunning outfits, you truly did a beautiful thing for those in need. The spirit of our organization truly shines in each of you.
