Stride for Kodiak,
a fundraiser for the Providence Kodiak Island Health Care Foundation was
a great success. The race was a 5k/10k walk/run with a $10 entry fee.
Fifty-one walkers and runners participated and SI of Kodiak raised $3,100.00.
Seventeen local businesses and organizations showed their support by donating
products/prizes and making financial contributions to the fundraiser.
Every participant received a sports bottle with water or Powerade to drink
after the race. There were a number of other prizes given out. Not one
participant walked away empty handed. The race was held in conjunction
with the Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center Health Fair.
The Kodiak Island
Health Care Foundation was grateful for the support they received from
SI of Kodiak. The monies raised will be used to open the Kodiak Community
Health Center (KCHC). KCHC will be a primary care clinic structured to
serve the entire community and particularly the medically under served
population in Kodiak. The medically under served includes individuals
who are unable to afford or qualify for medical insurance and those who
are underinsured.
SIK Committee Chairmen
Darlene Turner and Karina VanderLeest did a great job organizing the race.
Sixteen SIK members worked during the race at water stations, helping
runners stay on course and cross the roads safely.
